Almost Didn't Make It

Yea!  I just barely made the deadline.  I had a tad bit of difficulty with my stitching choice, but after I found fabric that would work the rest was easy.  I didn't do anything special with my ornament.  I guess you could say I am kind of hum-drum.  But I am pleased with it overall.  I see where Lainey stitched the same design and I love the colors that she chose.  Her finish is so bright and fun.  After seeing everyone else's finishes for the month, I think I need to step up my game some.

I have already chosen what I will be stitching for February.  I will pull the pattern out tomorrow and post the pictures.  I have enjoyed the first month of the SAL and I am looking forward to next month.

My little bitty finish!

Thanks to Lei posting this little freebie design I have a  January ornament. Don;t look to closely, when I went to put it together I noticed my letters were a bit out. I must have been stitching in the dark..lol.
I've found a few black cats to choose from will let you know tomorrow what I decide.

LAINEY

My January Finish

Here is my finish for this month- Lil' Punkin'. I still think it needs a little something but I like how it turned out. A bit big for my tree but I do have another I can use it on come Halloween time. Still deciding between two black cat charts but will have a choice to post tomorrow. Really enjoying seeing all the wonderful posts from everyone too:)

My January pumpkin finish

Hello Everyone, I am so glad to be a part of this blog this year. I finished stitching the pumpkin and have yet to make it into an ornament.

This pattern came from the 2010 issue Just Cross Stitch Halloween Ornament magazine. The designer is Casey Buonaugurio. The pattern name is Jack O Lantern. The fabric is Aida orange with brown flecks throughout. I used DMC floss.

I am now on the hunt for a Black Cat for February to stitch up.

Happy Stitching!

Jo's January Finish

I have finished the stitching but not the finishing!!  It's a little bit big for an ornie and my son has no use for a pillow finish so I think I'll be scrapbooking it then getting another 12inch box frame for his bedroom so we can swap the designs about.

That means a trip to the craft shop which isn't on the books for a little while yet.  I only get a 20minute break when I'm at work so there's not time to eat a sandwich, drink a coffee AND browse the craft shop!  So it could be half-term before I get there.

Anyway, here's the finished stitching.  Is the wide eyed kitty the cutest thing ever?

DSC03529.jpg Silver Cute Dwarf Pumpkin Kitty

It's a freebie from Silver Cute Dwarf's blog.  It's actually quite big and wasn't an easy stitch, there are lots of vertical and horizontal stitches rather than 3/4 fractionals which made counting tricky.  There's alot of stitching hours in this one!

Next month is the cat so there's lots of choices there.  I'll be back on the 1st with my decision.

Monday 28 January 2013

Here is my January stitch. It is from Blackbird Designs, booklet Trix or Treat. And the design is "Merry Gleam."  I am new to blogger, so I am hoping i've done this right. : )   I still need to finish it as an ornament, but this at least will give me a little practice with blogger.

Jan. Finish

I'm sorry to say that I was not able to finish my ornament this month. I was not even able to start it. I will try next month.

January Finish - Pumpkin

Yesterday I finished - just in time - my pumpkin for January:

It is from a Just Cross Stitch magazine, don't know exactly which one, the very number of the magazine I will add later... :o)
I changed the "2012" of the chart to "2013"...

Here comes the name and designer of the pumpkin: "White Jack-O-Lantern" by Casey Bionaugurio. From the JCS Annual Halloween issue 2012 (September/October 2012).

I already found a pattern for February - Black Cats... :o)

Best wishes, Cathi

Hello Everybody!

I love Halloween and I am so excited to join this Halloween Ornament SAL 2013.   I am from Eastern Europe and I am going to open my stitching blog in a couple days.

I brought a tiny ornament for January, I have designed this pattern with a couple of others in 2010 when I started cross stitching and did not have any pattern at all.  I could do a lot better now, but stitching it brought back nice memories of that first chapter when I discovered this wonderful hobby  that I  could  not and I still cannot resist and that I adore so much! :-)

Happy to be with you along this year, I hope we all have a couple of nice Halloween ornies for the autumn!

Best wishes,
Maja

Meow

The Halloween fabric is from a bunch of coordinating ones I bought  about 9 years ago:-)  I think its cute. The picture looks like its blue but its really a black background. I stitched the design on 14 cut black Aida.
Here is my first Halloween ornament for the SAL. I love it that I finally learned how to do ruching...I've always admired it sew much in everyone else's blogs. I think the ribbon really makes it POP. I know Pam, my sister will get a giggle out of that. She loves it when I say that.:-)  I got this design from JCS Halloween issue 2012 by. JBW designs.

Lynda's January ornie

Here is my ornament choice for January. It is a design from Lizzie Kate called Eek!, stitched on a piece of linen with the recommended GAST threads. The fabric is actually darker than it looks in this photo. I see that there is a little bit of thread there...we'll just call it part of the a web!

Jo's January Choice

Hello all, this is my introduction to me.

I'm "Jo who can't think of a clever nickname" and I blog at Serendipitous Stitching.  I attempted the Christmas Ornie SAL last year and failed miserably with only one puny finish.  So when I saw the Hallowe'en SAL I looked at the themes, searched through my charts and mags and decided I could actually do a little better at this one.  Let's face it, I couldn't do any worse!

Added to that I have a 10 year old son who loves my Hallowe'en stitching and cats.  So he'll keep me on the staight and narrow this year.

Here's how my choice for January's Pumpkin design looked like when I put it down at the end of November:

It's a freebie from Silver Cute Dwarf

I started stitching in November but it got put aside for Christmas stitching.  This SAL is a great excuse to finish it before October!!

Happy Stitching

Introduction

Hi Everyone,
I just joined this SAL--thanks, Lainey!  This is a great idea because now I'll have a bunch of new ornies for my Hallowe'en tree!  Since January's theme is pumpkins, my choice for the month is this:

The design is from the Prairie Schooler Heads Up booklet.
He'll finish up small on 40-count linen,
but that's the way I like it!

Can't wait to see what everyone else stitches this month!

Bountiful Kitties finished!

I'm so pleased I finally finished this one.  If I recall correctly, I even have a frame that I bought for it so many years ago.  Now if I can just find it ......

My choice for next month is Scaredy Cat from Blue Ribbon Designs.  I got it from Just Cross Stitch Halloween Collection published in 2011.

Thursday 10 January 2013

I am so excited to join in the fun of this SAL. Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and I can finally have some ornies to put on my little Halloween tree! And to see all the wonderful work from everyone else!
I've chosen to do a cute little chart from an old Alma Lynne Designs book I got many years ago. The title is Fairies And Folklore Galore! I had some black 14 ct aida I've had forever so I decided to use that and DMC threads for the stitching. Now to figure out how I will finish it once its stitched...

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Elaine's January ornament Finish

Last night I finished my January ornament. It's from a kit of Halloween Owls on 14 ct plastic canvas. I made several changes on this one. I added the ear tufts from another owl and used the eyes from another owl. If you see my previous pic you can see the difference. I didn't think it looked much like an owl, just a pumpkin. I'm not sure if making the changes made it look anymore like an owl. It kinda looks like a cat, lol! Oh well, the theme this month was pumpkin and it's a pumpkin. I love cats too. :) I did have to do some frogging yesterday morning on it. I messed up twice on the back stitching and had to pull it out. It's really hard to see black back stitching around black stitches!I messed up on the lower eyes (twice??!) and of course had already back stitched around the black on the eyelids. :p

January ornament

Thanks, Lainey, for letting me join in. My grandson loves Halloween and I would love to have lots of Halloween ornaments for a little tree for him this year.
My first pick is Eek!! from Lizzie Kate. It even has a few little pumpkins on it.
I'll post a pic as soon as it is finished!

My January Start

I am so glad that Elaine set up this SAL. I enjoyed participating in her Christmas SAL last year and ended the year with some beautiful ornaments. Now I can look forward to a great display of fall stitching to decorate with in 2013.
Here is my January start...

I am stitching it with some floss from Nancy at The Victorian Motto Sampler on some mystery linen.
I hope that I get some time to stitch this week.

Jan's January Finish

I just finished stitching my January ornament. I decided to leave the flower on the side off as I didn't want the ornament to be too big. I stitched it over 2 on 28 count linen that I coffee/tea dyed using the called for DMC threads.

Sorry that the picture isn't better.

Saturday 5 January 2013

I am Patricia and am excited about this SAL,  I am a Halloween baby.  I will be stitching a design from Just Cross Stitch  call Boo.

Katie's January Finish

Yesterday after finishing my Christmas ornament for this month I started and finished my Halloween ornament too. I love this little guy. He's done on perforated paper with DMC and beads. He's from the Just Cross Stitch 2012 Halloween issue. I left off the arms and legs cause I was worried about them being so breakable. I'm all caught up now on my SALs for this month.

Halloween Ornament SAL 2013

Hi, am Cathi and very glad to be part of this blog... Halloween is my favourite time of the year (yeah, BEFORE Christmas - this comes second... :o) ).

Cathi

Mia's Halloween ornie

Hi everyone,

I'm planning on stitching an ornament with a pumpkin and spiders. Don't have a pic to show, only have the chart.

I guess I need to introduce myself :)
I'm from Finland, a town called Hyvinkaa. I'm almost 46 :) and have 3 children and a wonderful little grandson Mio, who is 1y 2mths old. I've been stitching since 2005 and have totally fallen in love with this form of art :) At the moment I'm unemplyed so I have loads of time to stitch.

My blog can be found here; http://miamaria67.blogspot.com

My January Ornie

Hi Everyone,

How much fun is this SAL going to be?  Thanks, Elaine for organising it and also the Christmas SAL which I am also participating in. I am going great guns on Halloween so far now!

My name is Kaye (or Kaisievic on the net sometimes) and my blog is Kitten Stitching, please come by and visit with me a while when you get the chance.  I am a fifty something educational book publisher (mainly of History books) and I live in the gorgeous leafy suburb of Eaglemont in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia with TraderVic (DH), my two youngest Dchildren and my DFIL.  I have been on blogger about 18 months now and have found that I have become quite addicted to it although I try hard not to let it get in the way of my other addictions passions, which are, of course, cross stitch, reading, travel, my family..... You get the picture.

I chose this cute design from Glory Bee featuring a pumpkin from the 2012 JCS Halloween mag.

... and here is my progress so far:

I am using my own fabric - 32 ct overdyed Cocoa linen and I am substituting the Gentle Arts Sampler Threads with mainly Weeks Dye Works as they are the colours which I have!  I am pleased with my progress so far - this is what I managed to stitch in just one day and that was with an awful lot going on in the home yesterday (tradesmen on my doorstep at 7 am to install a new air conditioner - thank goodness as it was 41 (106 F) degrees yesterday! then the new dishwasher had to be installed and on it went!)
hugs,

Colleen's January - Pumpkin & A Crow

Hi,
I'm Colleen and I live in Southwest Florida a/k/a The Sunshine State. I've been stitching forever and a day, or so it seems. With all those years of stitching, you would think I'd have a gazillon ornies, right?.... No, I still don't have a Halloween Ornament Tree. To my delight, Lainey is hosting this wonderful Halloween SAL; it's just what I need. Not only will I have Halloween Ornies, I will also meet new stitching friends, gather up more mojo & see cute and lovely ornies, stitched by all of you.

My January Ornie is  A Crow's Pick , designed by Knotted Tree NeedleArt. The chart can be found in the 2011 Just CrossStitch Annual Halloween Issue. I've swapped the fabric & threads called for and will use my own colorpath. My fabby is hand dyed, cream linen, either 30 or 32 count (haven't counted threads yet) and Gentle Art threads.

Thank you Lainey for organising and hosting the Halloween Ornament SAL.
Happy Stitching,
                              Colleen

Jan's January Pumpkin

Hi, I'm Jan. I live in Northern Virginia, right across the river from Washington D.C.
I've been with my DH for 27 years. No children, just cats. Actually down to one cat now. I have been stitching for over 30 years. I stitch a lot of BAPs so it is going to be a nice change to stitch ornaments. I spent hours going through my patterns and I finally decided on this one from Plum Pudding Needleart.

Looking forward to seeing everyone's ornaments through the year.

I am going to stitch Halloween Night by SanMan Originals and use a tuck that I won on the SanMan Merrymen Board.  I will be using DMC threads.

January's Pumpkins (with crows, bats, a full moon and 3 black cats)

Hello all!  My name is Marcy and I'm so happy to participate in this SAL (thanks for organizing it Lainey!).

I love stitching Halloween things -- Autumn is one of my favorite seasons.  My first ornament is a Mill Hill kit called Bountiful Kitties.  I'm going to cheat a little for January because I've had this started for probably three years now but never seem to get it finished.  This is the first (and probably the last) time I stitched on paper and, quite frankly, I don't like it.   If I were to do another of these kits, I would stitch on fabric instead.  However, I hate to not finish this one because I like it so much -- it's just too cute.  And so I'm going to take this opportunity to finally finish(!) it.

I look forward to seeing some fun Halloween ornaments and getting to know everyone.

Elaine's January Ornament

Hi, I'm Elaine. (the other one. I also go by Lainey but since we have one here, I will use Elaine. :) I live in southern Wisconsin and have been married for 32 years. I have 3 grown kids (2 daughters, 1 son), 2 sons-in law and a grandson. I have been stitching forever. Right now I have a couple of Heaven and Earth Designs going (and a million other pieces!). It's my first time with something that big. I definitely need some smaller things to take a break with. Lainey's SALs were the perfect thing! I always plan on stitching ornaments and usually never get much done. I''m hoping to do all 12 months of both the Halloween and Christmas SAL.I know Lainey and Katie but I'm not sure who else. It will be nice to make some new friends. :) I have a blog here if anyone is interested. It has lots of stitching and other stuff.

For January's pumpkin theme I have chosen a pumpkin owl. It's part of a Halloween owl plastic canvas kit I bought last year. I only managed to stitch one of the owls so I will be doing a few more for this SAL. It's done on 14 ct plastic canvas with floss. To me this one doesn't look much like an owl so I think I may stitch his ear tufts coming out the top of the pumpkin. We'll see how that goes. :)

Pumpkin for January

Well some how I accepted the invitation on my iPad and can't post or access on my PC. Will try and figure out how to post photos on iPad. I have kitted an old Gloria and Pat design called "Boo Time" Looking forward to seeing everyone's  projects.

Pirjo's January

Hello everybody, this is Pirjo aka Pike from Finland. I haven't been doing much stitching for the last six months or so, but I'm starting anew :) I am planning to finish some of my smaller WIPs during this SAL, but my first choice is Plumpkin by Lizzie Kate. I love her designs and came across this on yesterday - and ordered it :)

Tuesday 1 January 2013

Lei's January Ornament

Hello.  My name is Lei and I live in Tennessee.  I am married and have a seven year old son.  I enjoy cross stitching, although I have not been able to do it for quite some time.  My January ornament is the freebie Primitive Pumpkins from The Little Stitcher.  The freebie can be found here.  I have had this pattern for a while and look forward to seeing what I can do with it.  I have not decided what fabric to stitch on yet, so that will be a surprise.

I look forward to seeing all the wonderful ornaments that will be stitched this year.  Take care.

Getting Ready for Halloween

April's January Pick

Hi All,

I am April and I live in IL.  I am a SAHM to my son who is 8 and daughter who is 6 and have been married to my DH for 9 years. I love Halloween, so this SAL is perfect for me.

The picture is not the best, but my first piece is by Plum Street Samplers and the leaflet is called Stranded Jacks.  I am stitching the mermaid with the pumpkins under her for my January piece.  The fabric is 36 ct. and I am using a mixture of CC, WDW and GAST for the threads.  You can see on the fabric, the little start I have had on it today so far.

I am excited to see what everyone else is stitching and also to share my finishes with you.

Katie's January Pick

Hello everyone. My name is Katie. I live in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I'm 33 and a stay at home mother. I have one wonderful son named Jeremiah. He's 14. I'm also lucky enough to be happily married to a great guy named Fred. I love Halloween and always want to stitch some up for myself and yet never do. So I really hope this SAL pushes me to do just that.

For January I've picked out a pumpkin to go with the theme. Here is a picture of the piece...
He's from the Just Cross Stitch 2012 Halloween issue. I think I'm going to leave off the green arm and legs though. I haven't kitted him yet. Hopefully I'll have time this week. I'm going to work on my Christmas ornament SAL first.

I hope everyone has a great time stitching this month. I look forward to seeing what everyone picks to stitch.

TIME TO GET STARTED!

There has been a good response to the new Halloween Ornament Stitch-A-Long. At the moment 18 people have shown an interest.
I am looking forward all those lovely Ornaments I know you are all going to make.
Please try and post a photo at the beginning of each month of your chart, fabric and threads that you are going to be stitching. On the last day of the month share a photo of your finished Ornament.
Happy stitching everyone!
